LUAU’S & DINNER SHOWS
ALII LUAU at the POLYNESIAN
CULTURAL CENTER
Upon
your arrival at the lu‘au site, you are welcomed with
a fresh flower lei and Polynesian people eager to share
their culture with you. Then, before the dinner program
begins, you’ll see the kalua (steamed) pig lifted off the steaming rocks of the imu (underground oven). The blowing of a conch shell announces
the arrival of Hawaiian royalty, The
Ali‘i Court, who were believed to manage
the affairs of the land and people on behalf of the
gods. As Hawai‘i’s most authentic lu‘au begins, hula
dancers perform the hula kahiko,
or ancient dances, that tell stories of old Hawai‘i.
Next, hula dancers take you on a nostalgic tour of Hawaiian
musical styles, including songs of the 1930s and ’40s
and the classic sounds of the Hawaiian steel guitar.
Doors open at 5:00 p.m. and the program begins at 5:30
p.m. The lu'au wraps up by 6:30 p.m., leaving you plenty
of time to do some shopping before “Horizons,” the island’s largest evening show. Or call (808)
293-3333. Or visit them online at: www.Polynesia.com.
