Interisland airways now has two fully narrated tours to see Hawai‘i’s volcanoes. “The Fabulous Volcano Orchid Tour” is an all-day affair (6 a.m. to 6 p.m.) for all ages. The tour begins with a “flightsee” of O‘ahu, Moloka‘i, Lana‘i, Kaho‘olawe, Maui and the island of Hawai‘i, where it lands for a “sightsee” tour to Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park. Or, go on “The Twilight Lava Walk & Eco Tour” (closed shoes required and children must be 8 years and older). This is an afternoon pickup and begins with a “flightsee” of O‘ahu, Moloka‘i, Lana‘i, Kaho‘olawe, Maui and the island of Hawai‘i. The plane lands on Hawai‘i to see the beautiful rainforest and newly formed black sand beach. Then, walk across the “frozen fire” at Kalapana to view the steamy fury of the volcano exploding into the ocean at twilight. PACIFIC AVIATION MUSEUM
In the center of Pearl Harbor’s historic sites, the Pacific Aviation Museum occupies World War II-era hangars that still bear the scars of our nation’s first aviation battlefield.
