LAHAINA INN
The structure was built in 1938 by Tomezo Masuda–for his Maui Trading Company, Ltd., a general merchandise store. The store was a popular gathering place for Army men stationed on Maui during WW II. The 1970s and ’80s were not kind to the Lahainaluna Hotel. It had decayed to a “fleabag” joint, an eyesore with a rowdy bar downstairs, when Rick rescued it in 1986. His labor of love was completed several years later and renamed the Lahaina Hotel, then in 1994, the Lahaina Inn.

The original 19 rooms became 12 rooms with private baths, more windows and private lanais. Each of the rooms was individually decorated-12 styles of period individually decorated-12 styles of period wallpaper and 12 coordinating patterns in the bed covers and sheets. Modern conveniences added includes central air conditioning, private baths and phones. No television sets distract from the ambiance. In December 1989, the newly restored Lahaina Inn emerged, exuding all the romance and nostalgic ambiance of an inn at the turn of the century. For more information, call (800) 669-3444.
