Spotlight's Maui Gold - Welcome to the Island of Maui

Welcome to Maui, “The Valley Isle.” Or more recently, “The Magic Isle.” Haleakala, the 10,023-foot high dormant volcano dominates the east side of Maui, rising above the resorts of Kihei, Wailea and Makena. The West Maui Mountains watch over the resort areas of Lahaina, Ka‘anapali and Kapalua on the west. Many of Maui’s 135,605 residents live in the valley between these two mountains (the Wailuku/Kahului area) and on the slopes of Haleakala.

Lahaina Town as seen from airWailuku is the county seat of Maui County which includes the islands of Lana‘i, Moloka‘i and unpopulated Kaho‘olawe.

Popular visitor activities on Maui include coasting down Haleakala on a mountain bike, golfing, whale watching in winter and boat cruises to swimming and snorkeling areas.
