KAPAA HISTORY TOUR
Learn about the history and architecture of Kapa‘a town during Kaua‘i Historical Society’s 90-minute walking tour. Interpretive guides tell about the Japanese Stone Lantern and other stories of the area. Tours at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Reservations required: (808) 245-3373. $

KAUAI CHILDREN'S DISCOVERY MUSEUM
This non-profit organization is a permanent science, art and cultural exploratory museum–a hands-on, touch, see, feel and learn museum of experience. The museum is fun for the entire family–those that live here and those that are visiting. KCDM is a community venture made possible through the generosity of individual and business sponsors, foundations, and government agencies. Kaua‘i Children's Discovery Museum is in the Kaua‘i Village Shopping Center in Kapa‘a. Open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. Admission fee. For information, call (808) 823-8222.

KAUAI MUSEUM TOUR
The Kaua‘i Museum houses a permanent collection of ancient Hawaiian artifacts plus photographs and artifacts from the recent past that document the island’s plantation heritage. Hours: 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Mon. to Fri.; 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sat. 4428 Rice St., Lihu‘e. For details, call (808) 245-6931. $

 KAUAI GEOLOGICAL FACTS 
Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau are the oldest of the main islands at five million years old. Because of its maturity, Kaua‘i has broad, lush erosional valleys and coastal features such as fringing coral reefs and sandy beaches. Waimea Canyon, referred to as the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific,” is Hawai‘i’s largest erosional valley at 3,567 feet at its deepest and about 14 miles long.


WEST KAUAI TECHNOLOGY & VISITOR CENTER
  • Take a FREE 90-minute walking tour through historic Waimea Town every Monday morning from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the West Kaua‘i Technology & Visitor Center (Waimea Canyon Drive at Kaumuali‘i Hwy.)

  • The art of making a lei and other Hawaiian crafts is taught each Friday morning from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. For information and reservations, call (808) 338-1332.
